A portrait about Nathalie Sanz
– Interview from the 6’th of March 2019, Galle, Sri Lanka –
- When was the last time you felt happiness from the bottom of your heart?
Every day I feel like that. Today for example I was lying on the beach on the sun bed and this dog came and she looked for refuge. It was so beautiful. There was a connection between us and I get touched by little things like that. Connecting with an animal or a person is happiness for me.
- How would you describe spirituality in your own words?
One. Being one with nature, with someone’s eyes, with silence. It is a connection. It’s being off. Being fully present. I was raised in a semi religious environment in Europe and I also was in a convent with nuns. So I studied Latin, singing and praising god in a very traditional way. But later in my life I studied different schools of spirituality like Buddhism. I studied with the Dalai Lama and different teachers, also shamans. I decided to trust in my own heart and follow my own school of spirituality and I don’t really have a master or a name. It’s a connection.
- Do you believe in god?
I believe god is inside of one self and we are created supposedly on the image of god. I believe that we have god’s qualities in our self’s . So it’s our responsibility to develop those qualities and to be as divine and loving as possible. We have so much power inside. For me it’s a god with no name of course. It’s my own connection to nature with my own spirit. In flamenco when I dance we say there is a spirit with no name which enters that inspires you to dance. It’s called “El duende”.
- Imagine, the last day of your life has come and there is nobody who has any information about you and your life. All the information has mysteriously been deleted. If I would give you an empty sheet of paper and you could leave a message with the three most important wisdoms of your life, which three wisdoms would you write down?
Trust. Passion. Inspire.
- In what sense the world is going to be different places because you were here?
I am not gonna build a Tour d’Eiffel or something like that. I feel I am so small at this world and I am like a little grain of sand in the sea. (laughs)
The people that I’ve met told me: „Thank you Nathalie for giving me so much joy and happiness. You inspire me to be daring and to be adventurous.” So I think if I have given joy to children, I am already so happy to give them love and full of their joy.
- Whats your vision for your life?
Just to be strong. Follow my dreams, to inspire and create wellness and joy. For many years I actually had these sentences. The past is gone and tomorrow is just a wish or a dream. So now is the most powerful moment we have in the present. Be present completely with the person you are. Listen completely with your heart. Give of your soul and of yourself fully. Carpe diem! (laughs)
- When you make decisions, do you prefer following your head or your heart and instinct?
In Ayurveda I’m really balanced. I went to an Ayurveda school in India and they told about Pitta, Kapha and Vata. I’m active like a Pitta. I’m sensitive like a Vata and I’m relaxed like a Kapha. So good luck trying to pick one. (laughs)
I always look at the good and the negative points before I make up my mind. I do a lot of research like before coming to Sri Lanka about the clean water, nature, culture and spirituality. So you see it’s all about the mind and then at the last minute the winner is my heart, my intuition. I always follow my intuition. So in the end I always do what I feel like and definitely my intuition plays a big role.
- What was the most life changing experience and was it connected with a key-experience?
Yes sir. I had many in my life. And the best was something as simple, as profound, as daring, as surfing. (laughs) I’ve grown so much with surfing. First I had to overcome my fear. It was huge. Overcoming fear is amazing. I had to go to emergency several times and just to have access to this courage inside, to that trust, to that meditation, to access that inner peace and that connection with the ocean. And it’s also important to respect, connect and study the ocean that I had to overcome and understand the ocean. There were so many factors that I had to learn and overcome. So for me it was a life changing experience because I became stronger, braver and I followed my passion and it’s so high up in my life what it gave me. Surfing is awe, just my favorite thing.
- How would you prefer your funeral to be like?
Oh my god. Who cares I’m not gonna to be there.(laughs) No, I care for people that are going to be there. I care that they gonna learn something from my life and that they gonna have peace and joy that I was here on this earth. So I would like them to celebrate, dance, sing and be happy. Be happy that I was here and had great experiences on this earth and that the end of suffering is there. So I want them to rejoice. It’s ok, it’s the circle of life. So maybe I’ll be back in another form. I have a feeling that this is not the end. It’s a little moment in this planet because our spirit is way too grand.
- If an artist would draw a picture about your life, what animal would he choose as a symbol for you? What would the landscape around you look like in the drawing? What kind of weather would it be there?
You know I’m really creative so I build up my own animal. Is that possible? (laughs loud) Because I was thinking of two animals and then I said how I’m gonna pick one if I know I’m both. First I’m super joyous, spontaneous, go with the flow and love the water. So I choose the dolphin. I worked with dolphins before so I know their qualities. The high empathy, they feel a lot, they are laughing, like to be funny and they love playing. I really feel like I’m connecting to dolphins. And I’m also super spontaneous, light and joyous and free like a bird. So I would be like a dolphin that could fly with her wings. A flying dolphin. Gorgeous colors in the sky of the sunset with yellow, orange and red and the palm trees.

26. March 2022 3:28Hi Nathalie from a former dance student of yours from way back. I saw a program on the knowledge Network the other day that reminded me of you so much that I had to send a message to your Facebook page explaining it. It also made me curious as to where your travels have led you after we had met at the West end statues a few years back and you told me that you where going to spain. It all sounds great and the interview reminded me of how powerful your energy was and still is! C.C.
